Buying engines for your workshop: how does trade work at Reco?

In short: Buying engines for your workshop's customers? You get a trade discount of about 5%. You can buy the engine and fit it yourself, or send the vehicle to our Sydney or Melbourne workshop: we do the fitting, you add your markup and keep the customer, and our warranty covers our work.

Do mechanics get a trade price?

Yes.

Tick "I am a mechanic or workshop" on our enquiry form so we quote you the right way.

What are the two ways to work with us?

1. Supply only. We send the engine to your workshop and you fit it. You get the trade price, and freight is quoted to your address. A workshop with a forklift usually means a cheaper delivery.

2. You send us the vehicle. We fit the engine at our Sydney or Melbourne workshop. You put your markup on the job and the customer stays yours. Hank's words: "We want to support your business."

Why does Hank suggest sending the vehicle?

Because it's our engine and we want it done right. When we fit it, we know how it went in, the timing was set by the people who built it, and the running-in starts properly. If we only supply the engine, we don't see what happens at the bench. As Hank says: "We don't want to have dramas with it after."

It also takes the job off your hoist when you are busy.

How do quotes and payment work for trade?

The same way as for anyone:

  • We confirm fitment from the make, model, year, series and the engine in the vehicle now.
  • Quotes are valid for 30 days.
  • Supply only: paid in full before the engine is released for shipping.
  • Fitting jobs: a 50% deposit books the job and holds the engine.
  • Pay by bank transfer or card over the phone.

Who handles a warranty claim on a customer's vehicle?

When we fit the engine, our warranty covers our work and the parts we supply. Either way, original parts that came across from the old engine are not covered.

Trade buyers may not have the same rights as a private buyer.

What makes a fitment check quick for a workshop?

Send the VIN, the series, and a photo of the engine number. If the engine is out, a photo of the old block helps. That is usually all we need to confirm the version and quote.
