Engine delivery: how do you get a replacement engine to a workshop or a country address?
Do you deliver engines Australia-wide?
Yes. We supply engines anywhere in the country. Fitting is different: if you want us to fit it, the vehicle comes to our Sydney or Melbourne workshop.
So there are two kinds of freight, and our enquiry form asks which one you need:
- Engine only. We ship the engine to you or your mechanic on a pallet or in a crate.
- The whole vehicle. We arrange a tow truck to bring the vehicle to our workshop, then we fit the engine.
How much does engine freight cost?
It is quoted per job, because it changes a lot from one address to the next. As Hank puts it, a crate going to a metro workshop that unloads it with a forklift can be $300 to $400 cheaper than the same crate going to a country address where the truck needs a tail-lift.
The things that move the price:
- Metro or country. Regional and remote addresses cost more.
- Forklift or tail-lift. An engine on a pallet is heavy. If there is no forklift where it is going, the truck needs a tail-lift to lower it, and that costs extra.
- Workshop or home. A workshop usually has a forklift and someone to sign for it. A home address usually does not.
What do we need from you for a freight quote?
Your suburb, postcode and state; whether it is going to a workshop, a business or a home; and whether there is a forklift on site or a tail-lift is needed. Those are the same questions on our enquiry form.
When is the engine sent?
For engine-only orders, the engine is paid in full before it is released for shipping.
What should you check when the engine arrives?
- Look over the crate or pallet for damage, and photograph anything that looks wrong.
- Note any damage on the delivery docket before you sign.
- Check the engine code on the engine matches your order.
- Call us the same day if anything is not right: 02 9737 0105.
Don't start fitting an engine you have doubts about. Once fitting has started, even partly, the engine cannot be returned for a refund.
Would it be cheaper to send the vehicle to us?
Sometimes. If the vehicle is already off the road and near Sydney or Melbourne, a tow to our workshop and our tow in, drive out fitting can work out simpler than freight plus a local mechanic.
