Nissan Navara YD25 replacement engine: what should you check before buying?

Is your Navara actually a YD25?
Which YD25 version do you need?
Our listing names the YD25 with the AMC cylinder head, Euro 3. The YD25 was built in more than one version: early ones used a rotary injection pump and later ones common rail, with different outputs by model and year. The version in your vehicle decides which injection parts, sensors and wiring come across.
Send us the VIN, the series and a photo of the engine number, and we confirm it. See will this engine fit my vehicle.
What killed the old engine?
On the YD25 the usual suspects are the timing chain and the EGR cooler.
- Chain jumped: the cause is the chain itself. The new engine starts with a new chain, so keep up the checks from here.
- Overheated: find out why. A leaking EGR cooler can boil coolant away with no puddle. If that was the cause, the cooler must be fixed before the new engine runs.
Our YD25 engine problems article covers both.
What moves across from the old engine?
On a long motor, the outside parts come across: the turbo, injectors and fuel system, manifolds, EGR parts, sensors, starter and alternator.
What should your quote include?
- The engine: code, version, build and price.
- Fitting labour, or freight to your mechanic.
- Fluids and filters.
- The EGR cooler, if it is suspect.
- Any worn outside parts found when it comes off.
- The warranty terms.
Quotes are valid for 30 days. Fitting jobs take a 50% deposit; engine-only orders are paid in full before dispatch.
How do you look after the new engine?
Running-in oil for the first 1,000 km, then the service schedule. Listen for chain noise and watch the coolant level. See running in a new engine.
