Nissan QD32 engine: vehicles, problems and replacement options

The QD32 engine is Nissan's 3.2 litre four-cylinder diesel from the 1997 to 2001 D22 Navara 4WD. Reputable sources record no faults specific to it, so a proper diagnosis comes first. We list a new QD32 long motor at $4,150.

Prices as listed on our store on 15 October 2026.

Which vehicles use the QD32?

Our listing names the Nissan Navara D22. Independent references list the QD32 in the D22 Navara 4WD from 1997 to 2001, after which the 3.0 litre ZD30 replaced it. It was also used overseas in vans and light trucks. Our QD32 is a separate listing from our YD25 for the later D22.

Model names and years overlap. So we check the fit from your VIN, series and current engine before we quote. See will this engine fit my vehicle.

What problems are reported with the QD32?

There is very little on record for this engine. These are the points we can stand behind.

  • No documented engine-specific faults. The references we checked list no faults for the QD32 in the D22 Navara.
  • Age. These engines are now more than 20 years old. Wear, cooling system condition and how the vehicle has been maintained matter more than anything on paper.

What are the signs a QD32 may need replacing?

Use the general signs: hard starting, heavy smoke, knocking, overheating, low oil pressure and loss of power.

Should you repair, rebuild or replace a QD32?

Fuel and cooling faults are repairs. Worn bores, low compression or bearing damage confirmed by tests mean a rebuild or a new engine. At $4,150 listed, our QD32 is our lowest-priced engine.

Our options, in short:

  • Repair it, if the fault is in a part bolted to the engine, not the engine itself.
  • Rebuild your own QD32, if it is serviceable. We strip it, inspect it and give you a fixed quote. If not, there is a teardown fee for the labour.
  • Replace it with a new long motor from our range below, from $4,150.

Freight is quoted per job. We fit engines at our Sydney and Melbourne workshops. Fitting jobs need a 50% deposit. Engine-only orders are paid in full before dispatch.

What should you ask before ordering a QD32?

  1. Is it a D22 Navara with the QD32, not the later YD25 or ZD30?
  2. Which tests showed it is the engine itself?
  3. Are the injection pump and injectors in good order? They come across to the new engine.
  4. Do I want it fitted at your workshop, or sent to my mechanic?

QD32 FAQs

Should I replace or rebuild my QD32?

We can assess your own engine for reconditioning. We strip, clean and inspect it to establish whether it is serviceable, then give a fixed rebuild quote. A teardown fee applies if it cannot be rebuilt. We also check replacement-engine options for your vehicle.

Can you fit a QD32 for me?

Fitting is not included in the price and is quoted separately. Fitting is available at our Sydney and Melbourne workshops. We first check that the engine suits your vehicle.

How long does fitting take?

Fitting bookings depend on the workshop queue. Allow roughly one to three weeks, depending on the job and workshop availability. This is a guide, not a guaranteed completion time; confirm the timing for your vehicle when enquiring.
