Replacing an Isuzu truck engine: what should your quote include?

In short: An itemised quote for an Isuzu truck engine should name the exact engine code and spec, the build (long bare, timed or not), what is in the box, what moves across from the old engine, labour, fluids, freight or a tow, and the warranty for a commercial vehicle. We list the 4JJ1-TC at $7,350, the 4HK1-TC at $7,250 and the 6HK1-T at $8,500.

Prices as listed on our store on 15 October 2026.

What should an itemised quote list?

Use this as a checklist when you compare quotes:

  1. The exact engine. Code, capacity, version and emissions spec. "4JJ1" alone is not enough: our listing is the early, truck-spec 4JJ1-TC.
  2. The build. Long bare, timed or not, and what that includes.
  3. What moves across. Every original part to be transferred, so you know it has been allowed for.
  4. Labour. Engine out and in, transfer of parts, set-up. Trucks take longer than utes.
  5. Fluids and filters. Oil, filters, coolant.
  6. Parts found worn. How they will be quoted and approved before fitting.
  7. Freight or towing. Engine to your workshop, or the truck to ours.
  8. Warranty. The period for a commercial vehicle, when it starts, and what voids it.
  9. Timing. The booking date and how long the truck will be off the road.

What warranty applies to a commercial vehicle?

We will publish one answer once he confirms. Ask for the period on your quote.

Why does downtime matter more for a truck?

Because a truck off the road costs money every day.

Can a fleet workshop fit it themselves?

Yes. We supply the engine with a trade discount of about 5%, and freight to a workshop with a forklift is usually the simplest delivery. Or send the truck to our Sydney or Melbourne workshop and add your margin to the job. See trade buying at Reco.

What should be checked on the truck before the new engine goes in?

The cause of the old failure first. Then the cooling system, air intake and filters, the turbo and the injection system. Our 4JJ1-TC engine problems article covers issues reported on the 4JJ1.
